超聲波傳感器常用的模式是漫反射模式。單個(gè)超聲波傳感器既是發(fā)射器又是接器，并且通常包含相應(yīng)的電子處理元件在同一個(gè)外殼內(nèi)。

為了可靠地檢測(cè)困難目標(biāo)物，大多數(shù)的漫反射模式傳感器可以通過(guò)軟件參數(shù)設(shè)置，轉(zhuǎn)換為反射板模式。有的超聲波傳感器從一開(kāi)始就提供了反射板模式的傳感器。

超聲波傳感器采用超出人可聽(tīng)聲之外的高頻率超聲波作為測(cè)量介質(zhì)。通過(guò)傳感器和物體間聲波的傳送時(shí)間就可計(jì)算出距離或位置。由于超聲波傳感器的可靠性和精確性，廣泛用于木材，家具工業(yè)，建筑材料和設(shè)備，農(nóng)業(yè)設(shè)備和液位控制場(chǎng)合。

超聲波傳感器快速的發(fā)送一束聲波，并對(duì)物體反射回的聲波作出響應(yīng)。  傳感器具有開(kāi)關(guān)量輸出，并且開(kāi)關(guān)點(diǎn)位置可以設(shè)定。物體超出開(kāi)關(guān)點(diǎn)位置是不會(huì)被檢測(cè)到的(背景抑制）。
